No. Tap Guardian doesn't route your child's internet through a VPN, and it doesn't install a device-management (MDM) profile. On iPhone it uses Apple's own Screen Time framework; on Android it runs as a regular app with the permissions you approve during setup.

If Tap Guardian's permissions are switched off on your child's phone, you'll get an alert. On iPhone this shows up the next time your child's phone opens Tap Guardian. If the phone stops checking in, you'll be told it's offline, and after 24 hours that it may have been removed. On Android you can also turn on Uninstall Protection, which blocks uninstalling the app while it's on and alerts you if it's turned off. On iPhone, you can turn off app deletion in the phone's Screen Time settings and lock it with a Screen Time passcode.

Brain Boost is a daily quiz feature where kids answer 5 age-adaptive questions across subjects like Science, Math, History, Vocabulary, Financial Literacy, and Geography. Every correct answer earns 3 minutes of bonus screen time (up to 15 minutes per day). Questions refresh daily and adapt to your child's age group, making learning genuinely rewarding.

Kids earn points by completing tasks and Brain Boost quizzes. They spend points in the Reward Store on screen time boosts (15, 30, or 60 minutes) or custom rewards you create — things like special privileges, activities, or treats. You set the point cost and description for each reward. Screen time rewards are instant; custom rewards need your approval first.
